I am having a difficult time tweaking the interior of one of my fiirst 8x8 coops due to poor planning on my part. In a nutshell, I want to make my nest boxes from the traditional interior box design to one that is external and I can gather eggs without entering the coop. This will free up some floor space and allow me to put my roosts where they need to be.

I would like to see some pictures of the construction process to make exterior nest boxes so I can cut a hole in my OSB exterior and frame them up on the same day while the birds are out free ranging. How did you frame your nest boxes up? Thanks.

The framing all depends on what you have already there. Frame the opening with dimensional lumber, 2x4, 2x3, 2x2 or what ever works. Make sure that the bottom is sturdy, whether it is the floor coop, or framed up.

You can use this to make the nest boxes. Change the width to what ever you need to fit your coop.

Just wanted to give you a huge thanks for this. I converted a shed into an addition on my coop, and need to add custom sized nest boxes to fit the pre-framed window opening. With this plan, I can convert the measurements but still use your templates. EXCELLENT! Thank you for sharing!
