extra fertile Pekin duck eggs...Should I sell? How much!

Hello everyone Well i have extra fertile pekin duck eggs that I am wanting to sell, I have never shipped duck eggs or any eggs at all to anyone. I posted in the eggs and chicks for sale area and actually I have two people that are interested, now I wanted to know though how the shipping works, and such....and also how much I should charge for a half dozen? The fertility of my eggs have been great it started off a little off due to the drakes first time but now all of my eggs have ducklings inside!

Well I just would like to know what would be a reasonable price to sell a half a dozen and what factors i need to consider when collecting to ship!

Also if anyone one else might be interested please do say. I still have to check though that i will have enough eggs to ship, my duck has been making an egg about everday now, she better not stop! LOL

The price is up to you and supply and demand. I would generally start at about $1 - $2 and egg plus shipping. Then you can adjust up or down depending on how fast they are selling.

And I would be interested in some Pekin eggs in the future! I have Rouen and Khaki Campbells now, and I've been wanting to add some Pekin to the mix.

If it helps I was going to pay $1 for mine, they turned out to be great quality ducks though, so I probably would have paid $2 had I seen the parents. (Got 'em as a gimme though!

)

I know they sell 1 Dz unfertile eggs for $4-5 here. They usually are more then chicken eggs either way.

Depending on the quality of the parents, I also agree with $1-$2 per egg. I think I paid $2 each for the pekins I had gotten, from SQ parents. The cayugas I got were $1, and some of those were mixed.

When you guys say quality what do you guys mean? Is there such thing as show quality pekin ducks? if so what are the main differences? I have been looking for some quite some time!

I've seen some meat pekins.... they don't look so nice. Maybe it was just those specific ones, but they were way too large and the feathers weren't so nice looking either.

I actually like my pekins they have such beautiful feathers and the male is always nice and puffy they are cute!

I actually am wondering are duck eggs more expensive than chicken eggs or are they the same value? I want to be sure i price them correctly not too high as well.

Am I understanding this right? Are you saying you only have 2 ducks, 1 male (drake) and 1 female (duck)? If so that means whoever buys your eggs all the duckies would be brothers and sisters.

If you are just starting out and don't know the quality of your stock I wouldn't charge what everyone else is charging for their duck eggs or wouldn't charge at all. Someone else may end up buying your eggs instead of someone else's eggs and after they hatch may be dissapointed that they didn't get their eggs from someone else who may have better stock and where all the offspring are not identically related. If this is the case I hope you tell the people before hand that buy your eggs that that is the case so they don't get dissapointed later and start complaining and giving you a bad name because word of mouth can make or break your future in this. I have been giving away my duck eggs and little ducklings I've hatched out that I didn't want for FREE for the last 6 or 7 months to whoever wanted them. The only duck eggs I have sold were sold as eating eggs for $2.00 for the dozon and if they really wanted to hatch them they could have and gotten some ducks to hatch for their flock. I have been doing all this chicken, duck, turkey and guinea stuff myself for about a year and a half now and it was my intention to just do it for the shear pleasure of it and not out to just make a buck. This spring and summer I will be working on many NEW Projects and when they start going in the direction I want then I will start to sell some of their eggs to establish my name hopefully in the poultry world. I have only SOLD 1 dozen chicken eggs for hatching and that was just a couple of weeks ago. I have been giving them away free just to get some of my chickens out there so there are others around. The dozen I sold were my Gold Phoenix.

Also if this is the case maybe you should just give some of your eggs away at first as testers and definately get at least 1 or 2 other female ducks so all the duckies are not exactly related. Is there anyone else in your area that also has Pekings that you may be able to trade eggs with so you each have some new blood in your flocks?

I am also going to GIVE a local teacher here a bunch of duck and chicken eggs in Feb or March for a classroom project. She wanted to buy some but I told her that since it was a classroom project for the kids I would give them to her for free. Maybe you could find out if there are any school teachers planning a hatching project also and you could donate some of your eggs.

thanks for the comment, yes you are true on that well i did say i did and actually people are interested in them for pets not for breeding reasons, and even so sometimes when people have their breeders they dont know what egg came from what hen so they might eventually all be from the same parents. If anyone is interested in the fertile eggs I will sell at a reasonable price, or just do a trade like i am actually going to do with someone that offered me some chicken eggs.
