I am just being curious and this is probably a silly question but is it common for a chick aged about a month or less to have a comb this large? I've had many baby chicks and have never seen one develop this fast for such a young age. Maybe it's just the breed.

Also I've noticed that one of the chicks is not booted. Probably came from a different mamma you think? I do know they all had the same father. The copper color is developing nicely on their necks and the boy here is getting a nice green sheen on this back feathers which you cannot see well in the images.

See the youngest one on the right has no feathers on it's feet or legs. All the others do. No doubt it would be my lucky day if I have three pullets and a cockerel!

Thanks for the answers you two! I think they are going into their ugly phase.

If they are all Marans it looks like you have 3 pullets and 1 roo. How old are they? I can tell almost at hatch the roos by their combs. They get bigger QUICK! Some will hide but eventually the ROO will come out in them LOL
