I have 11 hens (5 golden comets, 4 dekalb amberlinks, 2 black stars). They are fed 1/4lb per bird of organic layer mash per day, have free choice oyster/egg shell, and get some supervised free range time, always have access to their run during daylight. They occasionally get fruit/veggie scraps or some scrambled eggs or bean sprouts, but it is not a daily thing. I bought them as started pullets in the fall (Sept/Oct) and they were listed as large layers. Thing is that I'm getting several extra large eggs a day, they don't fit in my cartons. I had one chicken prolapse a month+ ago. I've read that the egg size can increase after molt. I'm afraid of having more chickens prolapse after they molt this year. Any ideas on why they could be laying such large eggs and should I be worried?
