Okay, so I expect the first egg to be small... but I went out to the chicken coop and found the smallest egg ever! I only have chickens and the cage is fenced in on top as well so I know that another bird could not have laid this egg... What is up with this?

The egg on the right is a store bought egg and the brown one in the middle is the average size we have been getting from 2 of our chickens and the pinkish one is a first egg from, I think our silver spangled... Now the farthest one on the left, well one of the hens must be laying her first egg, but has anyone every had an egg this small?

My bantams first egg was the size of a quarter...One of my standards(didn't know which) was a little bigger...Now the standard one is up to medium size so far and the bantams are twice the size as their first.

It was for my gals. They laid small ones at first. Also, last week one of my fully grown hens laid a really small one.

Sometimes life happens and small eggs are created. I wouldn't be concerned at all. It's probably just as tasty as the others - mine was!!!!

Yes, it is normal. I just started getting my first eggs this past week (I've got 4 that are laying age). The first ones were really really tiny like yours, but elongated. Now that things seem to be stretching out a bit they are getting a little bigger, about the size of a store bought small perhaps. Today I actually got 3 eggs! I was so excited because I knew at leat 2 were laying. Now if I could get #4! It will come though!

I got my first eg two days ago and it was the smallest egg I've seen outside of a robins nest! I'm encouraged to hear they'll get bigger. I think I have two girls laying because I've gotten three little, really brown eggs and one that was almost "normal" sized but quite a bit lighter in color. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Our white legs typically lay ex.large to jumbo daily. a few weeks ago we got an egg about the size of a half dollar. They are over a year old and have been laying for months! must just be something that happends now and then!
