I'm setting up my brooder in anticipation of hatching my button/chinese painted quail next week. I've got a parakeet waterer for them and was planning to use brita-filtered water (tap water here is quite hard). I've bought this 22% turkey starter crumb to grind up: https://www.animalfeedstore.com/product/turkey-starter-crumbs/

I'm guessing I should supplement their feed with something like hard boiled chicken eggs — should I give this to them from day 1?

Also, should I be adding any extra vitamins or electrolytes to their water? Is there anything else useful to have on-hand in case any are weak or sick? I'm not worried about growing them super fast, I just want them to be as healthy as possible. Thanks for your advice!

I grind up their feed and add electrolytes or nutridrench to the water for the first week or so but not absolutely necessary on supplements in water if parent stock is good and incubator/hatch is on-point

Thanks muddy. I can't get hold of nutri-drench, but do you think something like this would be suitable? https://www.viovet.co.uk/NETTEX-Vitamin-Boost-with-Seaweed-and-Probiotics/c7576/
that should be fine (i can’t open the link, but that’s typical of this device). rooster booster and nutridrench are similar......for electrolytes save-a-chick and life-lytes are both good! i get life-llytes at RK and most TSC stock something adequate. Amazon basically has everything.....it’s just a matter of how quick you can get it shipped to your location
