I have a chicken that is about 1/12 years old. A Rhode Island Red and she injured on of her legs yesterday. I brought her in to isolate her and keep her off the leg. She just let loose with feathers like I have never seen. She has never molted like that before and I was wondering if the shock of her injury could cause them to drop an inordinate amount of feathers all at once. If not, what could it be. They all got wormed with Wazine last week but I can't think of any connection to that. Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

She's the right age and it's the right time, of the year, for a hard molt.
Any sign of parasites?
A high protein diet helps with the refeathering.

I can up her protein then and no sign of mites plus I use a lot of DE. I have never experienced a hard molt before so I hope that is what is happening. Thanks.

I neglected to mention. I hope her injuries heal swiftly.
