Hi yall,
I have a 3 year old Speckled Sussex who I discovered this morning to have pretty severe fly strike. Around 4 square inches of her rear is infested with writhing maggots and eggs. I’m leaving on a week long trip tomorrow, and the only vet who treats chickens near here can’t see her till Tuesday. My dad is gonna take care of the flock until we get back, but there’s no way he’s gonna clean maggots out of one of my chickens regularly. I’ve made some attempts at treating her but I’m not making any progress. Because of the severity and the 3 days before I can get her definitive care, I’m starting to wonder about euthanasia just so she doesn’t suffer, and we don’t have to majorly change our plans. I hate to say it but I’ve planned this trip for a long time and we can’t reschedule. Please help.
