Hi, there.
One of my chickens started molting. Then, I noticed that it appears to be a white crust, which bleeds over what looks to be her insides coming out of her anal area. The poor lil' hen?!

I've isolated her and cleaned the area - however it's raw, red and bleeds. Also, a white covering keeps developing over the area after I clean it...??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated on how to help this lil one.

She's a silky/ cochin (frizzle) mix. (bantam)
Although you can't tell in the photo since she's losing almost all her feathers...

Thanks for anyone's suggestions, advice, knowledge, etc...

You should do a search for Prolapsed Vent. I've never dealt with it (knock on wood), but I know its suggested trying to push it back in, and applying Prep H as well, to shrink swelling. She needs to be isolated from others in the flock, because they will peck at her. Do a search on prolapsed vent and you'll find all kinds of information about it! Good luck!

If you do not have any Prep-H available you can try honey - apply liberally to her vent area - keep her isolated and in a dark place - she should relax and not attempt to push against your trying to get her vent back inside her - this may take several attempts over a number of days.... one of mine took in excess of ten days to get her back to a normal state.

I wish you luck!

Suzie
