After taking a short break, I headed back into my coop to install nest's & a roost. As I approached the coop, I heard a faint humming sound. I stopped & listened momentarily, then immediately left the coop area. My coop is INUNDATED w/a bee swarm! What to do? Everything workwise just totally halted until I solve this problem. Any idea's out there?

Check the phone book, some bee keepers / pest control folks will come and vacuum them up for you! Good luck!

capture the swarm and you've got honey.

seriously, i have no idea what to do in order to capture the swarm, but i'm sure someone will want the bees if you don't.

If it is a honeybee swarm ~ they are looking for a new home. As long as your new coop isn't a suitable one, they should move on within a day or less. If they are hanging around call your local bee club or put a quick ad on Craig's List for a Free Swarm. If you call a pest control company they may charge you big $$ to come out.
Regular honeybees are very docile when they are in a swarm so are very unlikey to sting.

Get your camera and take some pictures ~ swarms are really amazing to see too!

I just tried the phone book. No luck! I live 1/2 way between two little hay shaker towns, & no one listed for bee keepers. Yellow pages go from bed's to beer. No help there.

I failed to post one item here. I'm extremely allergic to bee's, wasp's, hornet's, etc. I can't go NEAR the coop to do anything. Have you ever felt that "up the creek thing" w/o the paddle??

There was just a post on eith the LA or Inland Empire Craigslist where someone said they would come remove bees for free as they are a bee keeper. Farm and Garden section. Here is the link- It's worth a try

Swarms rarely hang around for more than a day ~ unless they move in ~ so it is likely they will be gone by tomorrow afternoon.

Were the bees inside or on the outside of the coop? Were they in a large clump?

Bees in swarms rarely sting as they have no honey or brood to defend.

Wow... My husband used to keep bees before I met him and up till 5 years ago. We did it together, and It was fun. We caught a wild swarm once. It was easy and fascinating. Hope some one can come get them cause a free swarm is great! The whole time we worked with the swarm catching it they never stung us... I don't think, although we where wearing suits They are really docile. But not a good idea if your allergic. Good luck!

We had one HUGE swarm trying to move on our front porch! They don't sting when looking for a new place, but I would be very careful! Google local honey to find a beekeeper in your area.
