At the moment I have a small farm with around 60-80 chickens. I have recently decided to only raise standard sized chickens due to my silkie flock being wiped out by a predator. I had a few bantams left I am in the process of selling and one is a blue millie flure d'uccle rooster and his millie flure mate. These were actually my friends chickens that she was keeping at my house due to her parents not wanting "pesky animals" on their property. She loves chickens like I do and I was trying to find a way for her to keep her breeding pair since it was just two little chickens. My fear was the millie rooster being killed by one of my standard roosters. Nothing had ever happened before but I wanted to be safe rather than sorry. So, I put him in my aviary where I have a trio of lady amhersts and 4 coturnix quail. I thought this would be perfect because no predators were able to get to them and they were with peaceful birds around their own size. Well this is where I start having problems.... I am away at school at the moment so I am telling my parents where to put animals and asking how they are doing. A month had passed since adding them to the aviary and I thought since nothing has happened they should be fine. Well, a few days later I get a call from my mother saying how this little millie had nearly killed one of my female pheasants. I was shocked that he would be so aggressive out of the blue after over a month being in the enclosure. She then continues saying how the rooster would grab the quail and shake them like a dog and throw them across the pen. My mother and myself were in shock of what this rooster had done. He had lived peacefully for years with silkies, millies, and other bantams of both sexes. Of course there was the occasional boy he didn't get along with but he was generally a peaceful guy who took care of his hens and minded his own business. My mother immediatley took him out of the aviary and put him in my "bacholer pad" where I am keeping 2 golden laced wyandottes and 2 giant blue orpington roosters. The other roosters were peaceful and we thought he would mind his own business and calm down. Well more excitement happened! He tried to kill one of my orpington roosters and nearly broke his wing! The orpington is at least 10lbs and this bantam is a 1lb maybe. Mind you the orpington was trying to get away from the millie and didn't want to fight. I was flored! I couldn't believe this little rooster was going around trying to kill my birds! I had never had such aggression even in my standard birds! have occasional skuffles but blood was rarely ever drawn. Has anyone ever had this problem before???

I havent, but i can point out some flaws (aw yes, flaws! XD )

First off, I understand why he was attacking pheasents. Pheasents, quails, and chickens, together? No, they do fight. Why was your peaceful little guy attacking your Orp? I have no idea, how old is he? It IS spring so his hormones might be higher, but i wouldnt count on that since fro the sounds of it he isnt too young. And you really shouldnt have a bacheleor pad, cause I dont see why its good. It would just provoke fighting, the only reason I would understand is if the roosters FOR SURE got along, but even then...

Sorry if i came off rude or treating you like a child, (even if you are one XD) Im sure you know what your doing, just thats what I was always taught

Ah alright. I hadn't seen any information about how they would interact and I had no idea what to do with the little guy. I had thought since nothing had happned for over a month it would be fine but that blew up in my face! The millie is probably 3 to 3.5 years old. At the moment I have my bacheler pad for roosters that don't go well in the main flock. I always make sure the boys I put in get along and absoluty don't fight. It's a temperary thing at the moment until I get individual breeding pens for everyone and their hens. The only problem is my friends millie at the moment... I wish I could keep him for her but I really don't want such an aggressive rooster in my flock.... No problem! I'm still learning and learned a big lesson from this... As much as I want everyone to get along it usually doesn't happen. Back to the drawing board for where this millie is going! Thank you again for your input :).

This is the only situation I have had so far with a really mean rooster like this. I have had the occasional squabbles with some of mine but never to the point of being injured or one dieing. I wish I could just persuade them to all get along with out having to get rid of some or separate them :/. I hope nobody has to deal with the problem I had.

Steve was a crazy black astralorp. He was the craziest creature I ever encountered. The tip off was when the girls didn't want to go in at night.Durring the day I sat in on their outside time. I tried behavior modification. His insanity grew. I put him in a dog crate the first seperation night until I could give him his own space, inside and out. I hoped he would outgrow it. He never did. He began inflicting wounds on himself. I butchered him right away and served him with buffalo sauce two weeks later.
I believe he suffered severe mental problems. He was violent. I believe he suffered and butchering him was the kind thing to do. Poor Steve he did his duty and provided us a good meal. Steve's sisters are normal intelligent healthy birds.
