Extremely pointy eggs w/pics

I get these all the time, 1-2 a day. Not sure who is doing it but there none the less.

Also, had an 'ole' timer tell me about the pointy ones being roo chicks. I could not convince her otherwise either.

We get plenty of those style.
But we also have one hen that lays almost perfectly round eggs.
They would have to be candled to figure out which end is which.

Wait and see when it warms up. It could be the cold. But every chicken lays a different shape. Even the genetically breed egg layers eggs are slightly different. That is why they sort them to keep them eye pleasing.

Just like PaulaJoAnne stated I too have had hens that lay either the pointed or completely round eggs. You never know what you are going to get.

The egg shape would be the shape of that part of the oviduct when the shell is being formed... maybe it is them being cold and all their muscles contracting!

I was watching one of those nature shows the other night and it talked about how birds that are cliff dwellers lay an egg that is really pointy at one end like that (so the eggs don't roll off of the rock ledges) and I have a pullet that does the same thing so I guess that means our gals are "cliff dwellers"!

One other thing I've noticed -- often times, the pointy eggs have watery whites. I haven't been frying my eggs lately (trying to lose a few pounds) but back when I did I would never take a pointy egg because it would spread over the whole pan!

It's gotta mean something... !
