Extremly swolen legs?

Hi guys, I'm posting on behalf of a friend who has a VERY old rooster named Phillip. Phillip's legs/feet are EXTREMLY swolen, and I've been searching for a cause for a while. I will try and get pics the next time I'm over there. I've got in my data base as possible ailments:

Bumble foot
Scaley leg mites

Any other sugestions?

Gosh...hard to say without pictures but what you had listed could very well be one of them. But one thing that came to mind was you had mentioned he was very old. I know in people they do tend to get swelling in their legs with heart failure. I have no idea if the same would be true for a chicken though?

Gout is a possibility, especially in older chickens. A pic would help.
