Eye closed eyelid yellow?

I know it is an awful time for you, especially when you have been caring for her so closely and she was doing better. It does help us to get some closure if we find out what was going on. There were 2 links, and I would call each one and discuss the price and how to take or ship her body. Some labs will email a shipping label for overnight shipping via Fedex or UPS. Keep in mind that tomorrow is a holiday, and they may not be open until Tuesday. Take care.

Yesterday I took her to the lab on the list you gave me. It was a long drive but worth it. And probably took less time than it would have to pack it and ship it. The pathologist said he would get back to me by the end of the day, and by God he did! She was full of about one cup of pus😱. There were no eggs in her ovaries. He is running tests to find out what caused this, and with each test result they email you. Amazing. I'm grossed out and horrified but as a chicken owner, I'm getting past it in order to work toward a solution. He doesn't give any advice on how to or if to treat the remaining flock and suggested I reach out to my veterinarian. I will call him today to see if he'll help me over the phone instead of bringing in 12 chickens for testing😕. The Pathologist did tell me to completely sterilize all feeders and waterers and the inside of the coop that I just cleaned Sunday. So I get to do it all again but what I did last night after I got off the phone with him (6:00 pm) was to use a shaklee product that eliminates bacteria. Doesn't smell horrible and I sprayed down every surface in there so they could at least go to bed. I fanned it out the best I could to get the scent out.

Those poor chickens have never been eyeballed so much in their 1 1/2 years of life. But I haven't had to deal with this before, and I've been very smug that my chickens haven't gotten sick. That's over. I'm eager to hear the results from the lab work. I'll post what I find out and hopefully it will help someone else.

Glad that you got some necropsy results, and we would all look forward to reading your final report. Have you seen any symptoms of illness in any of your other birds?

Not so far. I've got one with a dirty butt that needs a wash and I'll do that tonight.
When I get them sunflower seeds, I wave the cup to the right and they all look in that direction. Then I slowly move it to the left and they all look in that direction giving me a chance to look at every single eyeball.

I received three report so far but this one indicates some lab results. my avian vet will call me tomorrow but I wondered if any of you had comments.

It looks like it was a staphylococcal or staph infection in the eye and wattle, and an E.coli bacterial infection in her abdomen. That is a common infection in hens, and is a cause of salpingitis and egg yolk peritonitis. Thanks for posting, and let us know if anything else is reported.
