I have a RIR hen with an eye growth on the front corner of her eye. It started out looking like a pocket of white foam, and then went away for a week. It then came back but started to grow a solid mass of white tissue, that has a rotten odor. It has swolen her eye sack to the point that it's stretching the skin over her eye, so she can't see out of that eye. The eye is still healthy.

I tried to see if it was a soft tissue that could be suctioned out, or swabbed away with a Q-tip, but it turns out to be solid and attached to the inner eye/nasal tissue.

I've giving her antibiotic in her water, and seperated her to prevent spread in case it was contageous. She is still laying eggs on a regular basis, and today is feeling a bit more fiesty.

Will the antibiotic in her drinking water, cure this growth ?

Thanks for your help.

What antibiotic are you using and how much? How many days will you keep her on this? Depending on the antibiotic you have to throw away the eggs. Don't eat them.

I'd look up 'Coryza' or 'MG', if the eye has white bubbles or foam. Google it or try to search engine on this site.

If it is a hard mass, however, I'm leaning more towards infection. If so, an antibiotic should fight off the infection, but there will still be a 'plug' that will need to be removed. I don't know if this is even possible to do so close to the eye.

There's something that is supposed to help with eye infections, I think its terramyacin eye ointment, which you can usually pick up at a local feed store.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help

Here's a 'bump' at any rate!
