I have a hen with a terrible eye infection. I’ve searched everywhere in my area for a vet who will see chickens and there are none. My regular vet that sees my dogs won’t provide a prescription. What can I do? Is she doomed?

Don't panic! There are things you can do. Posting a picture of her eye can help others recommend treatment.

*this is NOT my chicken*

I’m not home to take a picture but to speed up any help, I found a picture online that looks most like mine does currently. This came on very quickly.

She has no other symptoms that I have noticed other than being lethargic.

Watch for other signs since a respiratory disease could be the reason for the swelling. Getting something into the eye or a peck wound could cause infection, or an insect sting might cause swelling. Can you open the eye gently with your fingers and see anything? White or yellow gunk, bubbles or foam, or just pink swollen tissue might be present. Look at her nostrils and beak for any mucus, and symptoms such as head shaking to rid the beak of mucus, crackles or rales, wheezes, gasping, or sneeze/cough may be seen. I would get some Tylosin powder antibiotic and start treatment for possible MG (mycoplasma gallisepticum) here or from jedds online:
