Hey guys, new member here. I would appreciate any help the forum may have to offer. I noticed one of my girls kept her right eye closed when I was putting them up last night. The area around her eye is pretty swollen. I went to Tractor Supply and was recommended Terramycin, which I purchased and applied. It does not seem to be doing much if anything. I have attached photos to this post. Any advice is appreciated as I do not want her to suffer. Thank you.

Welcome to BYC. She may have been pecked in the eye, have a foreign body (such as a seed or dirt) in the eye, or possibly a respiratory infection causing it. Is there drainage or gunk in the eye that needs to come out? You can clean it with saline and cotton swabs if necessary, before applying the ointment. Is there any watery eyes, nasal drainage, or sneeze/cough? Do you see any scabs around the eye that could be fowl pox scabs? A closer picture may help.

Thank you for the reply. I have not seen drainage, coughing, sneezing or anything like that. Simply swelling. She’s eating well and drinking. There are two black spots on her crop that appear new(er). I keep pretty close tabs on the girls and I noticed that a few days ago. They do not seem to be spreading either on her or to the other chickens. I will keep flushing and Terramycin on it and see what happens. Just didn’t know if there was a more severe problem brewing. Thank you for your response.
