Hello, my female Pekin duck has had a foamy looking eye for a couple weeks. She is starting to lose the feathers around her eyes and her skin is looking pinkish. I brought her inside so I could monitor her. In her coop outside she had access to a deep water dish. Is there something I could put in it or in her water to stop it from getting worse?

Hi, there! :frow

Sorry to hear you're having problems with your duck! A little bit more info would be quite helpful, how old is she, what is she being fed, is she able to bathe fully in the water at all, is she exhibiting any other symptoms besides the foamy eye, who is she being housed with, I'd also like to see a picture of her, and the eye.

Finding the underlying cause is essential so this doesn't reoccur, but for treatment I would probably gently wash her eye with some warm water, and then start applying some Terramycin eye ointment daily to the eye. This is what I use,

Or this,

I got her from an acquaintance of mine last year. At the time she was living with two male Pekins. I know she is at least 3 years old. Now she lives with two males and 4 other female Pekins. She goes outside every other day where she has access to water and a 900 square foot run area with grass. She's acting completely normal except for her eye. A couple weeks ago she was just foaming in the corner of her eye. I though it was from digging in the ground but it's just gotten worse.

Does she have a water bucket where she can dunk her whole head into?

She has a water bucket, yes. I'll try the eye cream. None of the other hens have it so I don't think it's the drakes.

Hopefully the Terramycin will get her healed up. But please don’t put her back with the drakes. Watch how they are with your other females too. Your one injured may have been a favorite.
