I have a broody hen (Lily) that presented with a bump on her eyelid 11 days ago. I applied Terramycin 2x daily and that didn't seem to help. Almost made it worse. Her eye would bubble after and she would scratch at it. So after a few days I started Veterycin spray and the terramycin. I could not find anywhere online if there is any interaction between the two, but now I'm starting to think it was a mistake to use both together. Now her eye is swollen and it has slight discharge (whenever I apply the meds noted) and no other symptoms. She has not had any discharge from the nose or mouth and she is otherwise acting normal (eating, drinking, normal feces). I was concerned at first for MG but I think she has an infection from scratching at it. Also, I checked for and do not see any worms. I'm going to pick up Tylan 50 today, but they only have the injectible. I've read on another post on here that I can place that directly in the eye and orally. I appreciate any advice on how to administer that or whether I should try something different altogether. I do not have an avian vet in my area :(. Lily is about 10 months old and she is a bantam cochin/silkie mix. Probably weighs just under 1lb since she has been broody for the last 3 weeks. This pic is from last night. Thank you in advance.

If you get the Tylan 50, give it orally 0.25 ml per pound 3 times daily for 3-5 days. It will treat mycoplasma (MG.) I would flush the eye with saline eye wash and clean it out if there is pus or gunk. Qtips may help. Pus can gather in the sinus or around the eye. Sometimes an eye infection is due to other bacteria than MG, such as E.coli, and other antibiotics may be better. Enrofloxacin 10% from jedds.com is one that might treat that. Look around in the eye for any debris or even a seed pod that might be stuck and irritating. This graphic video shows how to remove pus from around the eye:

Thank you so much!!! I've got the Tylan and if that doesn't work I'll order the Enrofloxacin.

Dosage of enrofloxacin 10% liquid is 0.05 ml per pound of weight every 12 hours for 5 days. That equals 0.25 or 1/4 ml for a 5 pound chicken. Walmart and other pharmacies will usually give you a free 1 ml syringe without a needle for giving small dosages to animals and children. I would not put the enrofloxacin in the water, but give it orally. It tastes bad, and they won’t drink enough.

Thank you!

Thank you!
Yesterday was the last day of the Tylan 50. Her eye swelling is pretty much gone, however she still doesn't open it fully, and seems to keep it closed for the most part. Is this pretty normal? Will it take a few weeks before she is 100%? I'll see if I can get a good pic to post.
