Eye infection?

Thanks for checking in! I believe now her eye was pecked out or injured and was extremely infected. We are on day 4 of applying terramycin and her eye looks so much better! She is eating more and moving around more as well. Thank you so much for the recommendation! You saved her!
So glad to hear that! And you’re so welcome :) So you think she lost her sight in that eye?

Yes, I watched her eating yesterday and she definitely can only see out of one eye. I have never dealt with this before so I don’t know if the actual eye ball is now flesh colored due to the severity of the infection before she received treatment or if her eye is no longer there. It appears her eye is no longer there. I never witnessed anything happen to her so I’m not sure what to think!

Ah poor dear! Time will tell as she continues to heal if it’s her eye being infected or bc it’s no longer there. You are doing great with her. You might just have to watch closely that she is getting enough food and water and not getting bullied or blocked access from the food and water since she will be less likely to see her flock mates coming in to pick on her. Let us know how she does.

It can take a week or so to see the actual eye if there is a lot of swelling. I would try to get a picture of her eye or the empty socket if you can, once swelling down. My polish hen who was always bumping into everybody in the barnyard, had her eye damaged by a peck. It took about 5 days to see the eye, but later it was clear that the eye was blind. She did well getting around in her familiar flock and already knew the layout for food and water. Even blind if the eye is intact, they can see light and dark, and that can help them get around. The left eye is farsighted while the right eye is near sighted, so that may make it easier to see close up. Here is a good article about the eye:
