I need to find out where I can get some antibiotic eye drops for a hen that has an eye infection. Does anyone know where I can get some?

My feed sore carries an antibiotic ophthalmic ointment, as most do.

Just be careful to never put an eye ointment or eye solution with steroids in their eyes without having them fluro-stained first. If the cornea is scratched and you use steroids, you can lose the eye.
They have to not stain before you can use the steroids to aid in healing without scar tissue.
The triple antibiotic opthalmic or terramycin are fine to use if there's no way to tell if the eye is scratched.

Thank you
I went to the website you suggested and got some eyedrops. I was not able to get any from our local vet supply. Now I just have to wait a few days. She is doing well, laying egs despite her ugly eye.
I will let you know how she does!

In the mean time rinse it with contact lens storage solution. Big bottle. Real cheap. Soak a cotton ball with it and gently wipe the eye. It will sooth her and has some germ killing properties. Is she wiping her eye by rubbing it against her back? If so the whole gang will get it in no time.

Does she make any funny noises when breathing??? You might have the beginning of an upper respiratory infection starting and will have to treat the whole flock. Just be very observant.

We were always told if it's a saline based solution then yes..but if it's a cleaner AND disinfectant then no.
Disinfectant probably wouldn't hurt as much unless allergic to that particular chemical but the cleaner itself could cause damage at full strength.
Make sure it's PH balanced.
Remember that some of these solution companies were sued not too long ago for their products causing fungal infections in eyes when the chemicals were used.

They do make saline eye washes that are not expensive at all and would probably be better to use if you don't know exactly what bacteria or fungus is infecting the eyes.

Also make sure to not cross contaminate the ointments, drops or eye washes you use by touching them to the eye or your hands after handling the infected birds.
Best to use gloves and q tips or cotton and put some of the medication into a clean container each time and dispose of gloves inbetween treatment of each one. Washing hands thoroughly afterwards.

I am still waiting for the eye drops to come in the mail. She's not wheezy, just the ugly eye. I should try and get a picture. SHe is a beautiful grey aracauna. I got her as an adult. She is in a pen by herself and she has had it for almost 6 months. I kept cleaning it regularly but it just got full of infection again and I just stressed her out. I am hoping the drops come soon.

It's been over a week waiting for the meds from that online place. It said it would arrive within 2 business days. Does anyone else have any experience with it? Isit longer when ordering in Canada?
