I have a hen that I've been trying to help for several weeks now. Her eye problem started with her just having it closed. Then it was seeping mucus. I gave her doses of Sulmet and put neosporin in her eyes. Nothing is helping. Right now the surrounding area around her eye is beginning to swell and it looks like there is a "growth" in front of her eye that pushing the cornea back! I don't know what to try to help her! She doesn't lay eggs anymore. I'm just keeping her as a pet. Is there something more I can do or is it more humane to put her down? I think she was pecked in the eye. Her other eye is fine and none of the other chickens are affected. She's eating fine, but it sure looks painful. Any suggestions????

Yeah, I'm thinking I may have to take her to the vet. It's been several weeks I've been trying to help her.

Well taking her to the vet is your best option! Good luck! I hope she feels better!

Sounds like a respitory/sinus infection. Clean the eye and treat symptoms with cattle med Tylan 50. Do a good search on poultry diseases/respitory illnesses to become familiar with what you are dealing with.
