Yesterday, I noticed that one of our little white bantam rocks had her eye swollen shut. I found out because I saw her with her head tucked under her wing and, just on a hunch, picked her up and there it was. So I bought some terrimyacin (sp?) to apply to her eye and, today, I found three more with the same thing!!! Does anyone have an idea as to what I'm dealing with? I put the medication in the 4 chickens' eyes. Should I do anything else?

They might have an illness that needs antibiotics to clear up.

I use injectables but you can purchase powdered form to put in the water.

Read up on diseases and try to match their symptoms.

good luck....

Thank you lilchick. Can you tell me what kind of antibiiotic you can put in the water? I've never given injections before and there's so many, although only 4 have a problem (as of yesterday). Should I treat the whole flock?

I would use tetracycline in their water. Just follow directions on package and days of treatment. I would treat them all since they were probably exposed by now.
What are the other symptoms?
Some on her like the Tylan and I have found L.A. 200 to work for me.. Injectables seem to work faster than powders....
But for those unsure of giving injections the powder will work also.

That's the funny thing! Other than the eye swollen shut, there's no other symptoms. Another one had it when I checked today.
