Thanks to you all I think I knew what to do. So let me run past you what I did and see if there is something I missed.
I went down for my noon visit with the girls and noticed that one of my Appenzellers had some blood on her 'shoulder' feathers. Luckily she's the more white one and it was obvious. After some inspection I found a small cut on her bottom eye lid and it had some blood on her face and her eye was a bit runny. I am thinking either something got in there or she scratched it herself.
She's 6 weeks, 1 day old. She's been out in the coop for the past week and 1/2. She's on Purina Medicated Starter. They all get ACV every other day in their water and in the inbetween days they get yogurt, mashed hardboiled egg and oats. They live in pine shavings sprinkled with DE. I lock them in at night, let them out in the morning. The pecking order seems to be pretty good. NO fighting or squabbling. Poop looks good. Um what else do you need to know. I do think it's an injury though.
I used contact lens saline solution and I rinsed the eye several times until any runny and all blood was gone. It had to be recent b/c it wasn't there this morning and there was no scabbing yet. I then dabbed it dry and applied some trioptic (triple antibiotic) eye ointment. I seperated her into a cat carrier and put her on old baby cloth diapers to keep any shavings out of there. I mixed some oats, yogurt and starter crumbles together and put a drop of bird vitamins into her water.
She pooed after I put her in and I cleaned it out and it looked normal.
I've been struggling to get these picts up so will continue to try and anyone can chime in and give thoughts. Thanks
Tracy
Here is eye AFTER the trioptic ointment. That's why it looks so gooey.
Here is the other eye. Normal.
