I started treating it with terramycin eye ointment three times a day two days ago and it’s getting worse by the day. I thought maybe she’s getting dirt and debris in it so I brought her inside last night.
I agree, I'd flush generously with saline, remove any bubbles and debris, then apply your ointment.Hi, thank you for the response! I am fairly certain this is not a respiratory issue. There are bubbles in the eye but I believe that is from the injured eye. There isn't any nasal drainage, that dirt is from the drainage from her eye and her being outside. She has a lot of drainage from her eye. She isn't sneezing or doing anything else that would make me think respiratory. The other side of her face is completely normal- if it was respiratory would she have drainage from both eyes?
Would the Tylosin help if this isn't respiratory?
Thank you! I just started the tylosin powder and am applying the terramycin 4x a day. I am still waiting for the saline solution to come in so I am just doing a warm compress and wiping around the eye prior to applying the terramycin.I agree, I'd flush generously with saline, remove any bubbles and debris, then apply your ointment.
I've had birds get injury to the eye due to fighting and sometimes there can be some bubbles the next day, but those usually resolve after really flushing the eye out, but giving the antibiotic may be helpful to prevent infection or get ahead of respiratory illness if this is the cause of the swelling.
You can make your own saline solution if you wish.Thank you! I just started the tylosin powder and am applying the terramycin 4x a day. That's greatYou can make your own saline solution if you wish.
To 1quart of water, add 2teaspoons of salt, bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer for about 10minutes, let cool.
You can store it in a clean jar for up to 24hours.
No worries at all! I found the dosing on another post you commented on so thank you!Sorry I have been away from the computer. Glad that you had the Tylosin on hand. Dosage is 1 tsp per gallon of water for up to 5 days. Let us know if it starts getting better.
