My black Orpington hen has growth on/around her eye. It has a white growth covering the front of the eyeball, and has swelling around the growth. Any ideas what this is, and how to treat it?

It looks like an infected injury from a peck wound or scratch or the like.

You've got to get the puss out. Chicken puss is very similar to hard ricotta cheese... Grab tweezers and q-tips and a little saline water to soften it and start carefully digging it out.

Wrap her in a towel to keep her still and go slow. She really won't like it, but maybe tired of struggling after a minute or two.

Apply generous amounts of Neosporin after getting the puss out and keep her separated from the other chickens someplace dim, quiet, and warm.

Thanks!

She's a very timid hen. I had a hard time finding other chickens that wouldn't pick on her.
Ended up putting her in with my silkies; she seems happy with them.
I'll follow your advice in the morning.
Thanks again!

Got it out today. I held her, and my wife dug it out. That thing was huge! It smelled terrible too.

Hen gave us no trouble, and acted relieved. I'll keep the ointment on it for a few days.

I am very happy to hear. Keep her confined and away from other chickens. Monitor food and water intake and make sure she's eating and drinking. If she goes off food and water, please let us know!

I hope she makes a full recovery.
