Hey peeps. I came home tonight to find my girls hiding in high places around my property. They usually put them selves to bed when it’s getting dark and the automatic door locks them in for the night. As I searched the property for them in the dark, I found one with an eye injury. It looks much better after I cleaned it but it looks like one or two scratches and a puncture wound. I couldn’t find any other injuries on her. All the other girls were fine. I cleaned her eye really well with warm salt water and coated her eye with triple antibiotic ointment. I spoiled her with a bunch of meal worms and she loved them. Any thoughts on what could have done this? I live in a suburban neighborhood. And any treatment advice is also very appreciated. Thank you!

It couldve been another chicken. I had a couple roosters get into a scuffle and one gave the other a bad eye injury. I’ve also seen hens get into squabbles as well.

do they get scared and hide when two fight? Because all of them were hiding.

Very good point. Thank you for mentioning that.
If you have a trail camera handy, you may want to put that out in case it isn't a raptor but a four-legged predator.
Do you have a rooster? The rooster's job is to watch for predators, to warn the ladies to get into the coop, and he will sacrifice his life so that the ladies make it in the coop safely.

Unfortunately, roosters aren’t allowed.

I understand.
I would put up a trail camera though while the flock is in a safe place for awhile. The predator could be a cat, dog, a really loud vehicle if they are near the road, raptors, etc.
If you have electrolytes, you may want to add that to the injured hen's water and the entire flock's water for a day to help with the stress.
