Creating a new post because I think this is an injury….

I’ve had a recent issue with my 4 year old going blind in 1 eye. The vet seems to think it’s cancer given her on going ascites. There was speculation on my part about occular Mareks but the vet didn’t seem to think that’s the case here.

It’s been several weeks since I noticed she was blind in the 1 eye, but she’s been managing fine. Everything was “normal” last night. This morning she’s keeping it closed and seems to be in pain. I can’t get a great look at it but I think the white of her eye is red. I have no idea what happened… maybe someone pecked her? It looks like there was a tiny bit of dried blood on her beak. (She’s in the top of the pecking order. Usually everyone just runs from her and she usually is the one doing the pecking.)

I flushed it out as best I could and applied terrymicin. I also gave her pain meds I had from previous vet visits.

what else can I do for her? Does this looks like a pecking injury? Or is it possible her eye is swelling so much from cancer?

I'd clean the eye with saline, remove any pus or debris and apply the ointment at least once daily.

Could be injury or a peck to the eye. If she's not been feeling well, others will sometimes take advantage. Monitor your flock to make sure she's not getting picked on.

I separated her and have been treating. The swelling looks much better today and she’s able to open her eye. However, her entire eye is black. 😳

All you can do is keep the eye cleaned of pus and debris and apply your ointment.
She may have had a poke or peck to the eye and has lost sight in the eye. You should be able to tell more as she heals.
