My rooster (year old Silkie) seems to have a goopy/bubbly eye. Other than that he is not crowing quite as frequently or chasing hens the same, but still has an appetite and is running around just fine (not lethargic). Our vet can't see us for a few more days and I'm worried about him. We've flushed the eye with drops and we're keeping it clean and feeding him garlic while he quarantines. What can I do to help him, and how severe is this?
Thank you in advance!

Bubbly eye is unfortunately usually a sign of a respiratory infection. If it's just bubbly eye I wouldnt treat with antibiotics yet. If this is the first day then he may get worse and since respiratory infections are highly contagious your other birds will contract it also. If he gets worse (swollen eye/s, discharge from nose/mouth, raspy breathing) then you can treat with tylan. Depending on the strength you get will depend on the dosage. Tylan 200 is 0.06ml 3x a day for 5 days orally. Once chickens contract respiratory infections they are carriers for life. Some choose to cull the entire flock then start over. Some choose to close their flock and just enjoy the birds they have. If you choose to keep them then you'll ne to have a closed flock until they're all gone.
