Hey everyone. Question. I have a 2 month (approx) old polish crested that has had issues w her left eye the past month. It was swollen and red to begin with, I took her to the vet and was given terramycin. The eye is open and seems better now but the skin around the eye seems to bother her. It’s very red and she itches it (scratches) frequently. Any idea?

Oh I forgot to mention. He checked for URI, lungs sounded good. No nasal discharge, eating drinking good and great energy.

Welcome to BYC!
Can you post a couple of clear photos of her eye?

Hope these suffice

Poor thing looks like she has been scratching it a lot. Where are you located? Is the chick in a brooder, in a coop, or outside? I would look for mites and lice on her skin which would be tiny bugs moving about. Her ear might have something irritating it such as mites or an infection. Perhaps you can clean it with some peroxide and a QTip to see what is in there.

Thing is I use diatomaceous earth all around my chicken yard and no other chickens are having this same issue. Hm. I’ll check though.

The DE could actually be what's causing the irritation.

I'd stop using the stuff...it's worthless anyways.
