I have a bird about 10 weeks old I noticed an eye issue with this morning. I have had these new birds about 3 weeks. One eye has a mass on it, not sure if someone picked her or if she injured it. The other eye is staying shut now. Once I pick her up and move her around some she opens it and it looks fine. I have her separated in crate on back porch and now she is very lively chirping. I worry I’m stressing her out more separating her from flock. Also attached a picture of poop from coop. Red included, assuming blood but not sure if it is an issue. New to chickens as well. My older birds I got months ago have not had many issues. These are separated into two coops.

Welcome to BYC!

@Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive , may be able to help.

To me, that looks like a pecking injury, I’d probably dab some Terramycin eye ointment on the affected area. As far as the poop, its mixed in with the feces pretty well so I’d be a bit surprised if it were an external injury, just to be sure I would probably treat with them Corid. They are at the age where coccidiosis is common.

I agree, for now I would treat the eyes as injury - clean with saline and use an eye ointment in and around the eyes. Take note if you see mucous from the nostrils - it's hard to tell in the photo of the left eye - could be food or mucous at the nostrils - so just watch for that.

The blood in the poop photos - I would get some Corid at the feed store and begin treatment for all this group of chicks. If possible, take a sample to your vet for them to check for Coccidia and worms.

Thank you both! I have seen some mucous at the nostrils on this and another bird in the group. Today was day 3 of Corid. The bird is doing ok, active enough. On top of everything we are in Florida and it’s been a few really hot days. After the 7 days of corid can I/ should I give Nutridench?

Yes, you can give Nutri-Drench once you finish the course of Corid.

Are your birds drinking the mixed water really well - that's the only source of water? Quite a bit of blood if they have been on Corid for 3 days already.

You are seeing mucous at the nostrils of this bird and another one? What does the inside of their beaks look like?

they are drinking the water, all water sources are treated with CORID. The first pic was from Wednesday before treatment. This is the bird today Monday afternoon attaching pics. Eye seems to be getting worse despite using eye cream. Once I get her alert she opens eyes and will eat and drink. But when I go to check on her she is usually just sitting with eyes closed.

Is vet care an option?
That looks to me like pus in the eye which would need to be removed/pressed out.
Where are you located in the world?
Likely she will need antibiotics as well. Depending on what you are dealing with Tylosin may help.

Unfortunately vet care isn’t available. I’m located in north Florida, Wellborn. I asked my local ag office and their references only did cows/goats. I asked my equine vet as well with no luck. Many medicines you need a prescription for but I cannot get that either due to no vets seeing chickens.

Looking at the pics, I am wondering if her eyes are intact. The material coming from the eyes may be pus, but it looks a little more like the tissue from the eye socket. Can you see an intact eye inside the eye when you open them? Could her eyes have been pecked? It is very hard to tell for sure just by pictures.
