I've been inside many commercial poultry houses (egg farms), and while it doesn't seem like the best way for poultry to live, none of the birds looked bad.

Commercial farmers generally take very good care of their livestock. If the birds (or pigs, or milk cows, or whatever) do not receive intensely good care and excellent medical care, they do not produce under those crowded conditions. It makes no sense at all to invest that much time and money and neglect the care of the animals.

One very bad example of negligent care should not be used to tar an entire industry. Tons of money is spent on research into what is the best care for those animals.

If all of you want to raise your own birds and not support factory farming, I understand that. I agree that the meat and eggs are better and the birds are happier. However, do not take one example or any information put out by Peta-type organizations as proof that animals are being tortured and that factory farming should be banned. Do not allow yourselves to be manipulated like that.
