New chick seems to have what looks like a black eye. Not sure if she was injured or it is infected. Should we be worried or is it okay?

Bad eye (honestly not a great pic, it looks blue on around her eye and swollen) :

Good eye (you can kind of see the swelling on the bad eye here) :

Is that dirt or scabs from pecking around/on the eye, beak?

The swelling could be from a peck and/or dirt and debris in the eye. You can try flushing the eye with saline and applying some Terramycin eye ointment or Vetericyn eye gel to see if there is any improvement.

Is she eating/drinking o.k.?

She seems to be eating and drinking fine. I think that was from her scratching at it. It does seem to bother her (her hopefully).

Update: It was A LOT more swollen when i got home from work today! Almost double the size as before. It's swollen completely shut. She'll open it for a minute after I spray saline in it, but then it goes right back shut. It kind of looks like there is a white film in her eye. So infection??

She also seems a little lethargic. Think whatever it is is making her pretty sick! :(
Any other ideas or suggestions?

Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

The chick is estimated 4 weeks old. People from another thread are thinking its a cockerel. We can't have a rooster where we live and on top of that I think this chick is pretty sick. My boyfriend wants to put the chick down. I hate the idea of that, the chick was a birthday present from a week ago and I've already gotten attached.
