In the Brooder
My wife and I added four new chickens to our flock about 2 weeks ago and we are having an issue with our little Rhode Island Red. We noticed about 5 days ago that one of her eyes was red and swollen almost completely shut. After some research online we found that Tylan could be used in small oral doses to clear the possible infection. Everything I read said about 5-7 days would clear it up. We administered her fourth dose this evening and the eye is still swollen shut. It appears that some of the redness has gone away but it is still closed. We were thinking infection but could it be something else like eye worms possibly? Do we need to quarantine her? She seems to be active and is eating and drinking normally. None of the other birds seem to be affected in any way. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, we went ahead and ordered VetRX since no local feed stores had it. The current dose we are administering is approximately 1/2cc of Tylan.
