Took our 3 pullets who actually were roos, back to the breeder, yesterday afternoon.
He had a group of 20 5-8 weeks old pullets, that were to old for the feed store. He said to pick out a half dozen. I picked out 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Barred Rocks(I just love the fuzzy butts) a black Armeracuna & a white mystery bird.
Of course I keep my new birds quarantine from my other birds. I also give them baths in warm anti-bacterial soap. Since the kids show them they have to get used to baths. I also go over them check for mites or sores, etc.
Well this gorgeous black young lady has a swollen eye. She is now in our hospital cage.
Her eye was crusty, so I got a large gauze pad with warm water. kept soaking in in water water and applying it to her eye. I finally got her eye to open. I thought I saw something white in it. But went on, I have put anti-bacterial cream on it 4 times since yesterday afternoon, after bathing the eye with warm water.
Now this evening after doing research, I think the darling may have eye worms. I do give my girls liquid worm meds regularly.
She is eating and drinking. She is not lethargic, active and cheeping. Bowel movement is normal and solid. I know she can't see out of it. Because one side of the cage is next to the wall, and she keeps the bad eye side of her body to the wall.
We have 29 animals-we have had worms before in the heifers, but never the chickens, dogs, rabbits or swine. But like I said UN-intentally I inherited this one. I think I have SUCKER on my forehead that only the animals can see.
Here is a picture of my girl, the eye isn't leaking. The reason her feathers look wet is the ointment on it. The bad thing is I have never been slow in taking any of my animals to the vet. But my husband's Union is currently on strike from the company he has been at for 32 years and strike pay is 150 a week & I am a stay at home mom(looking for a job desperately). So with all our animals, mortgage, cars and kids. A trip to the vet is not an option.
Any help with suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

- If She does have eye worms-will taking worming meds orally help??
- Can I remove them myself?
- What topical ointment can be applied to help rid her of it?
- Or does she have eye worms?
- Should I can her diet any?
- What cause the the eye worms?
- What can I do to prevent it?
