I recently noticed that one of my girls had an injury on her face, around her right eye. I noticed the injury in the evening as was locking them up and there wasnt much i could do at that time. the next day when i went to open up their coop i notice it was even more scratched and watched her scratching it herself, i improvised a "cone of shame" with a soft foam and purchased a poultry ointment... the scratch itself has healed beautifully and she's acting absolutely normal EXCEPT that eyelid has healed shut! i dont think her actual eye was scratched when she hurt her face, and there's no more scabbing or any sign of injury on the lid itself, but it's closed... is there any chance that eyelid will "re open"? or should i take her to the vet?

Pictures would help. Was the eye closed the entire time it was healing? I would think the ointment would have helped prevent it from sticking. If there is a possibility that it's just stuck shut with some dried 'gunk' then I would use some warm wet compresses to see if you can get it loosened up and open. If it is truly healed shut, then I think a vet is your best option.

thank you! i'll post some pictures tonight when i get home.. i saw her eye open (not fully) while it was healing and was really hoping it was just the scabbing or some 'gunk" like you mentioned holding it closed... but now it's been a couples days that everything is looking good and well healed and that eye is still closed :/
