Dear All,

One of my five chickens very quickly went from good to extremely sick. Both of her eyes are and mouth is filled with a mucus-like fluid. She is seeming to have a very hard time breathing. She hardly moves at all. I don't have high expectations but do you think anything can be done?

Worst of all I saw my other chickens eat these drooling mucus-like fluid. So I'm pretty sure they will all get infected unless they have a resistance against whatever this might be. Unfortunately, I don't have quarantina options.

From the brief description, it may be infectious bronchitis. You can look through this list of common diseases and it may be helpful http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

Once chickens have a disease, treatments are limited. A few vaccines and some antibiotics for some of them. Prevention is the best way to help chickens. For example, keeping them separated from the excrement, clean water and avoiding things like mold in their food.

Isolate the chicken if you can, because if she dies, the others will eat her.

Okay, I managed to isolate the chicken from the others. She has access to clean water and feed, although I haven't seen her drink or eat during the day. Let's see if she will make a miraculous recovery.
