Maybe I'm out of the loop, but is there some point to friending people you don't know? I mean, other than the obvious "Look at me! I'm popular!!" aspect?

I just de-friended 2 of my so-called "friends"--total strangers to me. I got invites from them maybe a month ago, and I figured we had mutual friends or something. Now tonight, as I'm putzing around on Facebook, I happened to look at their profiles. They each have like 600 friends, none of whom I know.

In my wildest dreams, I would not know 600 people. That's saying something when my family is as big as it is--2 or 3 times a year, I hang out with my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th cousins. We're talking 120 people here, tops. If I throw in my friends and acquaintances (and my kids!), it might come up to 200 total. Some don't know how to turn on a pc, nevermind chatting or IM'ing.

Who the heck friends people they don't know/ have nothing in common with/ aren't interested in talking to/ etc.?

Call me crazy, but I can't keep up with the 15 people I DO know on there, let alone have the time/desire to talk to people I don't know from Adam.

Am I a freak or something?

I agree with you. I only accept friend requests from people I actually know. So, I don't have hundreds of friends on Facebook but the ones I do have I am actually interested in. What cracks me up is that my daughter's friends will friend request me.Not sure why a teen would want to be friends with someone's mom; but it helps me to know what is going on with her and her crew.

I made a facebook page just because of this site. I only have a few family members and some fellow byc people on there. If they are not from here or related to me in some way then I don't add them. I don't really know the byc people but we have chickens in common and we all play farmtown on facebook.

I'm nosy, so I friended my 14 yr old on youtube so I can monitor what he watches. Mostly he watches "Fred" videos (if you don't know Fred, count yourself lucky!), so it's not a big deal.

I became friends with people I don't know.... but that's because I need neighbours in farmtown.. or clan members on vampire wars....

I just deactivated my Facebook about half an hour ago lol. Everyone who are my real friends talk to me by other means anyway and the ones that didn't shouldn't have been on my list to begin with

ha hahaha i know fred its that dude with the annoying voice.

I think some people really have a thing about seeing how many friends they can get. I have less than 25, I believe, and some of those I wish I had ignored because I barely know them and have nothing in common. If I had children, I certainly wouldn't want their photos, etc. to be visible to 600 people.

I have a relative by marriage who was constantly typing stuff on her wall like, "I am going to the pool." Later, "I have been to the pool." Just pretty mundane stuff, which is fine, but it was all the time. I try to put something slightly interesting. I guess it's just a different way of communicating for yonger people. I finally clicked "hide" by the name so I don't have to read all that.

Is it true that you can never really completely delete your Facebook account?

At first I friended only people i knew. But later when I started playing the addicting games, I started allowing others to add me. I make a separate list for "people i know", "mob", "farm town", etc so i can keep sorta keep up.

I've meet a couple of pretty nice people. One girl added me because our first and last names where the same, she lives in England. Her sister later added me because I was a nice friend to her sister. Later their dad added me, but I think that's cause he thought i was a relative, so i've been sorta adopted by them.

I have about 100 friends on Facebook. Most of them are people I know in real life: relatives, friends from work, old classmates, etc. I don't "friend" people I don't know.
