Don't. Several friends have gotten virus crashes because of the apps. Ain't worth it. Watch TV or buy the board game!

(teehee, imagining Red at bingo night at the local VFW hall...)

Yeah, I too ignore pretty much everything on the ride side of the screen, it is mostly ads, some well disguised as "alerts". I saw that "low security" thing on my page a while back and checked, all my settings were as high as possible. It's just BS. Another one is what Ranchhand already said "such and such friends used friend finder..." I have personally talked on the phone with a couple of the friends listed on that and they've said they've NEVER used it. They also said that they see I have used it, and I have NOT. So it's a lie.

I have also noticed that the various ads that pop up conveniently have to do with things I post, which irks me. If I post about losing weight, weight loss ads appear, if I post about being single, Dating ads appear, and so on.

As a rule, I pretty much ignore anything that requires me to click "Allow". It's not just asking your permission to play a game or do a quiz, it's asking that you allow FB to share your personal information in various ways. I have lots of friends who play games, I personally never have, but I'd be cautious.

I pretty much stick to posting thoughts, sharing photos, and commenting on friends' posts.

NO kidding! I do NOT like being tracked like that! I clear the Internet Options every few days to cut back on that crap. I like cookies, but not the tracking kind.

Laura has good advice there. As for the VFW, I used to work the bar in one, beachfront SC. It got pretty lively most nights!

Hey, not everyone who plays bingo there is old. I try to go every few months. It's fun, and I'm always the youngest, hottest chick there.

Yup. At first I thought it was coincidence, that it just became clear. One day I tested it and typed "I think I might travel to India". Confused the heck out of my friends, but sure enough, by the end of the day there were travel website ads to the right.

Now, I don't think there's an actual person reading my posts, I think it just automatically picks up keywords like "travel", etc. But it is annoying. I'm thinking about changing my status to "Married" just to get rid of that ugly guy on the dating ad that's ALWAYS there. It even narrows it down to my state and my sex. "Single hot guys in New Hampshire are looking for you!" Really? Where the heck are they then?

<Laurajean looks around in all directions, but sees no hot guy...>

...Good point.

Why is it everyone thinks I'm scary?

I'm glad someone finally told the Rowdy Bunch who their boss is.

Maybe now they'll listen to me.
