I have cared for a combination of chickens and ducks for only four months now, but already love them more than any other animal I have ever kept. Chickens are constantly happy "people", and their cheerful attitudes never fail to raise your spirits at any given time! My chickens are the pride of my life; I enjoy showing them off to individuals who have many misconceptions about what chickens really are. Many are amazed at how beautiful, graceful, intelligent, and personable they are, when the common stereotype is that chickens have only a couple purposes: to provide eggs and meat. Chickens have become much more to me than that. I look back in the past, and I can hardly imagine what life was life was like before I started raising poultry. I look forward to sharing insights, advice, and experiences on Backyard Chickens and with fellow chicken lovers like myself!

I’ve got 6 Easter Eggers, 3 Wyandottes: Silver-Laced, Golden-Laced, and Blue Laced Red, 2 Barred Rocks, a Partridge Rock, a White Rock, a Buff Orpington, a Dominique, a Welsummer, an Australorp, a Silver Spangled Hamburg, a Golden Campine, a Black Copper Marans, a Blue Splash Marans, a Black Sumatra, a Speckled Sussex, a Cream Legbar, a Buckeye, a Rhode Island Red, and a Barnevelder. Not to mention that I also raised 6 ducks: 3 Mallards, 2 Khaki Campbells, and a Buff duck. All I can say is that it’s a very busy life, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
