Fairy Egg

Good Evening Everyone, made the call about picking up the new chickens today, had been given the impression that it was a lady's flock, turns out that it's "His" flock and he's not wanting to let go.. lol, I assured him as I would have her, that they've come to a good home, they have new digs, mine are spoiled, they will be too. Scratch in the winter, watermelon and other fruits and produce during the summer.. He lets them free range, I explained that I don't, they stay in a covered run because I am such a worry wort that I'd be sitting out back with a shot gun.. So now we wait for them to get a good offer on their home, when they do, I'll make arrangements to go get them. In the meantime, I found this in one of the nest boxes, either one of the new girls are laying or one of the others had a off day :) first egg is one of the sexlinks, second egg is one of the newer girls and the faire egg, I'm not sure.

Everyone has been laying for few weeks now. I'm wondering if this isn't the result of the horrible temperature changes we've had here.
Nah, just a glitch.

Fairy, fart, wind, rooster eggs are usually from a tiny piece of tissue breaking loose from the reproductive tract, or an immature ova(yolk) and the body forms an egg around it. Color can be darker than 'normal' as the pigment coating released has to cover a much smaller area so is thicker. Can happen with any age layer, but more common with new or older layers.
I think it might be explained in this excellent video:

I got 2 fairy eggs last week. One from my 34 months old Golden Comets and 1 from my 25 weeks old Barred Rocks. 20190210_142130.jpg . Unfortunately the egg from the hen who started to lay after a 2 months hiatus froze and cracked. It deflated within minutes.
In this photo she laid the second largest at 69 grams. 20190210_133135.jpg .
She has laid a medium to XL 5 days straight. Her eggs are darker than the other Golden Comet. GC
