Investigating Fake „Open in app store“ pop up

Hi :frow
Please could you post some more information, for example :

  1. Are you on a computer, tablet, phone.
  2. If phone / mobile, which model? If computer, which operating system and version?
  3. Which browser and version are you using (eg., Chrome 58.0.3029, Firefox 3.5.9, Internet Explorer 8, etc.)
  4. Have you deleted your internet cache / browser history of files and tried again?
  5. Have you tried a different browser?
  6. What EXACTLY did you do? Document the steps you took before having the problem.
  7. Copy/Paste the exact error message you received (screenshots are best).

I will try - not easy since the pop up keeps appearing...
1. iphone 6plus
2.newest OS, whatever it’s called
3.Safari, up to date
4.yes, it came back anyway
5.nope, don’t use a different browser
6.it seems to happen after I click on the little arrow to see my alerts, it pops up after a few seconds, then keeps reappearing.
7. it’s not an error, it‘s a scam pop up
I‘ll take a screen shot next time
Thanks!

Thanks for the report and the details. We're looking into it to figure out if it's a site-wide issue or just specific to your use-case.

Any other members seeing this? If so, please reply with the answers to the great questions @Yorkshire Coop posted above, but especially which device, browser, and version you are using, and any other helpful info.

This is a known problem on iphones running safari. These pop ups come in intermittently all across the mobile web and they change up which networks they come in through.

These mobile pop ups are notoriously hard to trace and block but we have added some new technology to help us track them down. If we have a screenshot and know approximately what time it came in we can usually identify it and trace it to the source to eliminate it.

Here’s a screenshot - it happened again just now. It seems to come on after clicking the flash icon for alerts though it‘ll take a few seconds. Then it‘ll come back repeatedly while I am on BYC after that. I have not gotten this on any other website.

what time zone are you in so I can convert the time on your phone to our log time?
