Fake egg advice...

Practice golf balls are cheaper then the real ones. (Can you tell I'm not a golfer) I also use orangy/brown ping pong balls, and some marble eggs I bought years ago at the dollar store. They're huge like goose eggs, but the chickens don't seem to mind. Lol

Thank you all for the great advice. I put in a golf ball tonight. The hens have not started laying yet so does it hurt to put it in early? Also, will the colored plastic easter eggs bother them? My golf ball is yellow so I was also wondering about it being colored.

I used ceramic eggs til the stupid rat snake ate them

I don't think color or plastic would matter much. A lot of people say they peck at red, so I might stay away from red eggs. (Don't want them pecking or eating real eggs).

The "egg" was on the hen house floor, and all of the hens were standing over it and bawking up a storm! They did not settle down until I returned the "egg" to its nest.

This thread has intrigued me... I do not have any "fake eggs" and have girls who lay well usually, but go through "dry spells" as well as a couple hens that moved here from my moms, and pullets that should start laying anytime now.

Do you guys find that the "fakes" help production as there are always "eggs" there even after collecting?
