Fall 2008 Coop Page Contest - Ended

I keep thinking I'm going to enter this but I always forget to take pictures half way through the process. I just want to get it done. But since I sell my coops there's always another one coming. Maybe one of these days I'll get the page done. All the coop pictures might be different colors and seasons though.

I just told my husband I was a winner in the coop contest... and that I get a $20.00 gift certificate... he said...

"Too bad you can't get about $750.00!! (his estimate on the cost of the coop so far)

Once I start getting eggs, I am sure he will be happier with the idea of chickens.

BTW rebbetzin, from looking at your yard and all the greenery I would have never thought you were in Arizona. I've got two brothers in Mesa and the yards out there look quite a bit more dry.

Oh, and the brother that got me started with chickens had them when he lived here and when he moved down there was sad that he couldn't bring along his coop or his hens (homeowners association rules).

I refuse to live in the desert!!! I want to be on Prince Edward Island, or the coast of Oregon or Washington, or back in Alaska!!

I hate cactus, sand and howling coyotes!!

My husband is funny... He said this is the most expensive "free" chicken coop in history! ( told him I could build it for practically free)

You see, I planned on scrounging all the materials... and I did get quite a bit of it for free. But... in reading here about protection from preditors, and we have stray cats, hawks, even a owl in one of our pine trees in the backyard, I decided I really needed to beef up the sercurity level of the coop and run. He teases me about the cost of it, and once we get eggs, they will again be the most expensive eggs in the city!! But, this is a hobby I suppose, and you seldom make money on hobbies.

So, between the garden, where, when you consider the cost of water here, I can buy the best organic stuff in the market for less than it cost me to grow it myself, and my "free" chicken coop he has a lot of ammunition for his teasing!!

But, I don't complain about having stacks of old stereo equipment all over the house (he restores vintage stereo equipemt while he should be sleeping, since he has a day job, as an engineer, and is a congregational Rabbi too. We have a fun life, never a dull moment!!
