Fall Hatch! Anybody with me??

Quote:
Well here's a new one for you all! My last post I had a pip. My first hatched at 2:30 am. I stayed up the rest of the night to watch the others pip. By 6:30 am I had all but 4 pip. THEN my appendix flared up! I ended up in the hospital for 5 days. In the mean time my husband and son kept me up to date on the hatching. Out of 12 eggs we got 10 chicks. I was so happy and sad at the same time. Not being there to bond! I have a few pics of our new arrivals anyway. Enjoy BTW I'm back home and doing much better.

50% is supposed to be good for shipped eggs isn't it?
Whoa what!? 32 Silkies and 30+ bantam EE!? You are maybe gonna drown in little chickens! There are worse ways to go... Do you use the quail for your dogs? Are Silkies your favorite? My sister used to have Chinese geese. I really like them, she did too, very pretty. She had a white male that loved her so much, it would run up to her and honk until she scratched its head and talked to him. He got Coyoted. Sad.

If I ever have a pond I'll get the White Chinese.

I'm happy this thread will be going on. It's been nice to have the support and information from y'all. I've also enjoyed getting to know a little about people, it's kinda like having online penpals! I don't have a lot of people in my life who are as excited about livestock as I am so I appreciate the company!

I agree, it's really nice getting to know you guys! I do like silkies, but they're not my favorite, I really want some Seremas & marans to keep. I make a local ad for people within an hour or so from me to make "requests" on breeds of poultry they'd like to have but can't get around here. Then I make a short list based on the demand & order those breeds. Once they hatch I call everyone & see if theyre still interested & if not I sell them to the next person in line for that breed. It's just a way for me to help people out in getting what they want while at the same time letting me do my favorite hobby, hatching chicks lol. Before I used to just give everything I hatched to my papaw since I can't keep any but then I thought of a way to help local farms out & make atleast my money back on the eggs...usually. But anyways I don't do it for the money because I'd be buying & hatching eggs anyway lol. So that's what the silkie, showgirl, bantam EEs, quail, & geese are for. Actually the guy wanting the quail does use them for working his dogs & to eat I believe.

I recently had my husband build us a new off the ground kennel for our beagles, which leaves me with our old one. I'm really tempted to make it my new chicken coop! Like a duo or trio of bantams in each stall then a duo of regular sized chickens in the double stall. I could exercise them in my half acre rabbit pen so now I'm thinking of finding some Serama eggs after I hear enough "okays" on the coop. It's 13-15 feet wide & 8-10 long including the inside part of the runs. I'd need to put ramps up to the indoor opening & a roosting bar inside, as well as a nesting box. What do you guys think?

I'd use it for that. That actually looks like it would be great for quail. I wish I had one of those for my D'Uccle's to use as a breeding pen. Lucky you.

That's awesome you are able to raise birds for other people. Good idea! So do you keep chickens yourself then or no?
-Cielo

No I've never kept any myself because I never had a place to keep them. I live in a subdivision but I do have about an acre if I include the woods I own behind my house & I live out of city limits so I am allowed to have them just never had anything to keep them in until I thought of my old dog kennel! So I'm pretty excited now that you guys think it's adequate for a few chickens
