Hoping for the best. I've been wanting the CGs a long time. If these eggs don't work out I'll order chicks. After these eggs I'm taking a break and won't incubate until around February when it's TURKEY TIME! I'll be getting Midget White Turkey eggs and some from my sister who has a mixed flock of heritage Turkey breeds.

I'm getting more BBS Marans this week. Hopefully tomorrow!!

And the rest is just some more of my eggs Speckled Sussex and Golden Cuckoo Marans.

I can't wait to see how well your turkeys hatch in the spring!!

BBS Marans are blue? What do you like about the Marans? How did you get started with them? I know very little about them except they lay dark eggs.

BBS Marans are blue? What do you like about the Marans? How did you get started with them? I know very little about them except they lay dark eggs.

It stands for Blue, Black & Splash Marans!! I started with the Golden Cuckoo Marans for their coloring. I started looking at the Blue Orphingtons, while I was looking I came across the Blue Marans and thought they were so much prettier than the Orphs. SO, I ordered Blue Marans.. What I didn't realize at the time is they come BBS Marans. And although I started off with wanting the blues I think I like the Splash better!!

Here's how the Genetic Coloring works with them!!

Blue X Blue = 50% Blue, 25% Black, 25% Splash
Blue X Splash = 50% Blue, 50% Splash
Splash X Splash = 100% Splash
Splash X Black = 100% Blue
Blue X Black = 50% Blue, 50% Black
Black X Black = 100% Black

Pretty cool huh??

Some do. If you have the French standard they will. My GCM's don't the splash that I that he'd do. The blacks didn't. It sure about the blues.

Well here's a new one for you all! My last post I had a pip. My first hatched at 2:30 am. I stayed up the rest of the night to watch the others pip. By 6:30 am I had all but 4 pip. THEN my appendix flared up! I ended up in the hospital for 5 days. In the mean time my husband and son kept me up to date on the hatching. Out of 12 eggs we got 10 chicks. I was so happy and sad at the same time. Not being there to bond! I have a few pics of our new arrivals anyway. Enjoy BTW I'm back home and doing much better.
