Family doesn't understand....

Nah, let's opt for the blackmail. THAT we all understand!

@mommato3girls You are certainly in the right place! We want to hear about your chickens, and share your excitement! So chatter away - you sure have found an enabling audience on BYC!

I like the way you think!

My family never really understood either. I was always a gardener. I had a garden in our backyard for a couple of years - at least until I had to get a part-time job to save up money for college. Gardening in really poor, sandy soil was just too much time and work. I had to water 2 times a day! I know so much more, now!
My grandpa was a butcher and although they lived in town, he had a farm outside town that he had a couple of beef cows, chickens and crops on. Every time I say I would like to eventually get a farm animal, my dad just shakes his head and says - it ain't as easy as you think.
They are coming around. My step-mom grew up poor on a farm, she is missing having a garden now that she is retired. My dad is missing the fresh wilted-lettuce salads that we had every summer and his green onions.
My sister had cancer last year so she is now taking a good hard look at what she eats and is starting to realize that their 6 acres in the woods will not produce much healthy food for them - except venison of course. She did mention once that she is sad they are so far away and can't buy fresh eggs from me - but was happy to find a local source of home raised eggs from her husbands co-worker.
My little sister has not time for gardening, all her time is spent hauling kids to and from activities. They have 40 acres - including a 20 acre field along the river.

I am a lover of all animals. I have a house cat, two house dogs, a farm dog, a horse, a corn snake and all of my chickens. My mother actually told me any body that keeps a snake for a pet is crazy. I got my chicken keeping gene from my grandmother, my mother's mother. I got my horse lovng gene from my father. Both of my sisters have chickens, one of them also has a horse. Both sisters have cats and dogs. My brothers do not keep animals. Sometimes I wonder if women like animals because of their "mothering" instincts???

Sorry @donrae , you must have been under the influence when you got that idea. @Blooie and I are innocent...or framed.

We all want you to be happy!
