Family in Fortville, Indiana getting ready to build our first coop and raise some chickens! :-)

Hi && Welcome!!!

Forgive me if this is a repeat but I must warn you to be sure you are not within the town limits of Fortville, McCordsville or Fishers. The swarm of yuppies who have moved out to the "country" get all snarky about barnyard animals. A couple of years ago a family in Fortville went through quite a hassel over pet goats.

We are definitely outside the town limits! Thank you for the heads up though. BTW, the family in town, the Brown's, they still have their goat. :) Maybe not the same family you are talking about but they are the current hot topic on animal ordinance in the town proper. We are well outside all of that. Thank you all for the warm welcome!!!

Sorry to come in about 5 years late to this, but I am about to move into Fortville city limits on an acre at the edge of town. I was hoping to get backyard chickens in the spring. Does anybody know what the odds are that an exception would be granted if I apply to the Town Council?

Hi Nichole and welcome to BYC :frow Glad you've joined us... When you get ready for meat birds you'll want to checkout the meat bird thread and you may want to consider a portable shelter for the meat birds. Typically on pasture for about 35 days. Again welcome:old
