Welcome! I have two Cinnamon Queens myself as well as two Buff Orpingtons. I have to say that while both ate friendly I really enjoy the CQs! They don't sit on my lap as some ppls birds will do. They prefer my shoulder like some odd parrot who occasionally helps with breakfast. Or will any way. Mine aren't old enough to lay yet. I strongly recommend raising from chicks. They are friendlier and more affectionate IMO than full grown adopted birds.

It really is an adventure and if your son is like my kids, the first thing he'll want to do evey morning is go check on his chickens! Enjoy!

I have 3 girls -- an Easter Egger who was bit skittish for the first 2-3 weeks but with treats and a little patience is very nice now -- a french coper marans who is just 15 weeks and kinda new to our family. She's used to being handled and is gentle. Then there's Pearl who was supposed to be a black sex link (star) but is probably half jersey giant. She's the most gentle and sweetest one of the trio. Today she layed her fist egg! What a treat! Each one will lay different color eggs which I think is fun, and it's easy to tell who is laying.

I've waited a really long time to have chickens and we're totally loving it!

welcome to chicken world, I am new myself, I jumped in and now over run with chickens. you are smart to get the coop before the chickens and it is....so far though, nature has been good to me and it's learn as you go.
It would be easy to get hooked on a particular breed, but they all have great attributes, I have what I call appalachian mutts - some game bird and mixed with whatever happened...an interesting hardy mix, can't wait to post pictures and have everyone guess the heritage!
