Fan during hatching - is it dangerous?

I see it stated very often, but never proven..
I find it very difficult to believe that in these LG and HOva bators where people have so much trouble just maintaining temperature , that anybody has delicate enough instruments that can measure 1/2 degree in the difference of 1 inch of height.. I mean, think about it.. convection currant is enough to throw that theory off.. and radiant heat from the coil does not just hang around the coil...

I have tested it my self an talked to several others who have. An its way more than a half a degree over an inch. Convection actually compounds the problem, it does not help it. If you plugged all the vents to slow down convection then it would level out more but as long as hot air is rising up an out of the incubator an sucking room air in at the bottom you will get thermal layering.

fixed..

I think you meant to say incubator instead of thermometer,,

If warm air rises, like we both agree, how can it be that air from within a room is going to be "sucked" into a warmer environment like the inside of the incubator ? it would e more likely that the warmer air from inside the incubator would be forced out of the holes in the bottom of the incubator..

we are at an impass here,, I am not going to convince you and you are not going to convince me..

You got to be kidding? Your right about one thing.. Your not going to convince me that made up science is right.

Hot air rises colder air replaces it... Basic grade school science.

I think you are just arguing for the sake of arguing, now.. I already agreed that warm air rises.. read above.. and why are you getting so nasty ? don't you know how to discuss anything without getting mad? I was subscribed to this topic.. I am going to unsubscribe right now.. I refuse to fight with anybody

Ok folks - if we can steer back to the main course a bit.

Question: I already have one chick hatched and several peeps. Is it too dangerous to do a REALLY QUICK job at attaching a cage (hardware cloth) to the fan? I would have the fan pre-designed and fit, and then just open 'er up for, say, 30 seconds or less and attach the fan with duct tape or something. Is that still to risky?

Thanks!

I wouldn't open it if you have eggs between the pip an hatch stage. Its probably ok if there is a point you have no pips.
